Some of the highest-graded U.K. Price Variant comics ever certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), prized for their rarity and low-print U.K. exclusivity, are headlining ComicConnect’s Event Auction 63. The auction opens on August 25, 2025, and closes on September 14-18.
U.K. Price Variant comics from the Silver Age are highly sought after by collectors for their rarity and historical appeal. Printed in the United States but distributed in the United Kingdom, these issues replaced the U.S. cents price on the cover with a British pence value, often in small type within the price box. Produced in far smaller quantities and sold in a more limited market, they’re already scarce, but finding them in high grade is especially challenging due to the long overseas shipping process and the heavier handling they often endured.
Among the most impressive books offered in this selection is a Fantastic Four #48 U.K. Price Variant graded CGC 9.4. Released in 1966 by Lee and Kirby, Fantastic Four #48 marks the beginning of the iconic “Galactus Trilogy” and introduces two of Marvel’s most powerful cosmic characters. This issue catapulted the Fantastic Four into a larger cosmic narrative and expanded the scope of the Marvel Universe. There are more than 10,000 examples of the standard edition in the CGC Population Report, but only 60 of the U.K. Price Variant Edition — and this is the sole highest graded.
Also available is an Amazing Spider-Man #5 U.K. Price Variant graded CGC 9.0. This issue marks the explosive first meeting between Spider-Man and Doctor Doom, as the wall-crawler faces Marvel’s most calculating villain. In this classic by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Doom mistakes Spidey for a potential ally against the Fantastic Four, only to spark a battle of wits and webs that cements their rivalry. There are more than 3,600 examples of the standard edition in the CGC Population Report, but only 136 of the U.K. Price Variant Edition — and this is also the sole highest graded.
“ComicConnect is thrilled to offer several of the highest-graded CGC U.K. Variant Marvel comics in existence,” said Vincent Zurzolo, President of ComicConnect. “Each of these extraordinary books represents a rare combination of historical significance, exceptional preservation, and absolute scarcity. For dedicated collectors, this upcoming auction offers a rare opportunity to secure pieces that truly define the top tier of comic collecting.”
